PRESS RELEASE

O.K. Electric Supply and several major electrical manufacturers lend support to the City of Perth Amboy as they prepare housing for Katrina evacuees.

100 Apartments readied to aid families displaced from the worse natural disaster in United States history.

Perth Amboy, NJ - 9/30/2005 - Mayor Joseph Vas announced the formation of the Perth Amboy Gulf Coast Families Relief Fund, which will take 100 homeless families and provide them with temporary homes and a community environment. The city announced plans to ready 100 apartments at a former public housing complex that was slated for demolistion to make way for a new $100 million high school. The high school project had been put on hold in July, when the New Jersey School Construction Corporation, which was providing funding, announced there was no money left in its budget to pay for the project.

Since the buildings were scheduled to be demolished, lighting fixtures, wiring devices and smoke and CO2 detectors had all been stripped from the building. Doug Sabey of the Perth Amboy Housing Authority was given the daunting task of getting these 100 units ready for occupancy in just a week's time. He turned to O.K. Electric Supply to help make this happen.

Turning to their key manufacturers for support, O.K. Electric Supply was able to deliver over FOUR TRUCKLOADS of material to the jobsite in a two day period. WESTINGHOUSE LIGHTING had over 300 light fixtures on a truck and delivered the next day. COOPER WIRING DEVICES and LIGHTOLIER also rushed material to O.K. Electric Supply to be delivered. In all, O.K. Electric Supply and their manufacturers provided over $25,000 in product at no charge to the City of Perth Amboy or the victims. David Attardi personally delivered materials over the weekend to ensure product was installed in time for their arrival in their new temporary homes.

After a weeks time, the apartments could be called homes. Walls were freshly painted, rugs were on the floors, furniture and appliances were all in place. Even small details such as dishes, coffee makers and toasters were taken care of. Volunteers from various organizations provided finishing touches, from shower curtains and candles to baby equipment.

Mayor Joseph Vas explains, "Because of this outpouring of support from all around the state, I believe that with your continued support we can accomplish this effort and make a positive impact on the lives of these families."

Special Thanks to all of the companies that lended a hand:
